Dealing With Luggage at Tokyo Disney Resort

Helen Foster

If you’re visiting the Tokyo Disney Parks before you check into your hotel in the Tokyo Disney area, on your way to the airport or before traveling to your next destination, what can you do with your bags?

Here are your options…

And the good news is, you don’t have to pile them up in front of the castle!

Drop Off at Your Hotel

Good for those staying by the parks or who want to be in the park queue early

All the hotels in the TDR area will hold bags for you before and after check-in.

If you are staying at Disneyland Hotel and visiting Disneyland on check-in day or Miracosta and visiting DisneySea, the hotels are right by the gate, so it’s probably just as easy to take your bag to reception and leave it there for when you return to check-in as it is to leave it elsewhere in the resort area.

The other Disney hotels aren’t as close to the parks, but if you can make time to go before you join the queue, you can drop bags off after 6 a.m. The same would be true for the hotels on the monorail, like the Tokyo Bay Hilton, the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay or the Sheraton Tokyo Bay.

This is one of the best options if you want to be in the park’s queue before about 8:30 a.m.

If you have a Vacation Package, you need to pick up your paperwork before you go into the park, so you also might as well take your luggage straight to the hotel.

A common question is what to do if you are staying at the Toy Story or Fantasy Springs hotels, as these are only open to registered guests. Will they let you in? Yes. So long as you have a booking to show the security desk, they’ll let you in to drop off your bags—or pick up any you left behind.

If you are staying at one of the other hotels that aren’t as close to the park gates and don’t want to be in the queue before 8.00 am, the next option might be a better choice.

You can also leave your bags at the hotels on checkout.

Use the Maihama Welcome Center

Good for anyone staying in a Disney Hotel or one of the official partner hotels and you don’t mind getting in the queue a bit later.

The Tokyo Disney Resort Welcome Center is located close to the Maihama metro station at the gateway to Tokyo Disney Resort; you can leave your bags here if you’re staying in most of the Disney hotels, or an official partner hotel.

Disney Guests

You can drop bags here, and they will be delivered to your hotel for you. This is for guests staying at Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel, Disney Ambassador Hotel, Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta, Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel. It does not include the Celebration Hotel, which has a separate service (see below).

The service is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Services for Disney hotel guests are on the second floor, which, confusingly, is the floor you enter from ground level.

Note: You can no longer complete pre-check-in facilities for the Disney hotels at the Maihama Welcome Centre. You’ll have to check in at your hotel later in the day.

If You’re Staying at a Partner Hotel

You can also drop off bags to be delivered to the hotel and complete pre-check-in formalities on the 1st Floor of the Welcome Centre.

This applies to guests staying at Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel First Resort, Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel, Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama, Hilton Tokyo Bay, Hotel Okura Tokyo Bay and Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel.

Once you arrive, the first floor of the building is actually down the stairs. This service opens for slightly different hours than the one for Disney guests. You can use it from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. That might be a bit late if you’re trying to get to DisneySea early to snag ride passes for Fantasy Springs. If you are, either take the bags to your hotel, or, use a locker. More on those in a minute.

On Check Out

Bags can also be delivered to the Welcome Centre to be picked up after check-out. But note that you can only collect them here between 1pm and 8pm. That’s earlier than the park closing time, so only do this if you’re leaving before the end of the night. There is also a fee for this service.

Use the Bon Voyage Service

Good for those staying at Celebration Hotel – who don’t want to be in the park queue super early

Celebration Hotel is Tokyo Disney’s Value Resort. It’s not quite as near the park as the other hotels, and they treat baggage delivery slightly differently.

Celebration Hotel guests can drop their bags off at the Bon Voyage shop, which is between Maihama Station and the entrance to Disneyland.

They will deliver the items directly to the hotel for a fee of 800 yen. You leave your bags at the Home Delivery Service Counter on the first floor. The service is available from the store’s opening until 3 p.m.

Grab a Locker

Best for those who want to be in the park queue super early and/or don’t want to go to their hotel

There are a lot of lockers around the Tokyo Disney Resort area.

Outside of the park area itself, lockers are located at ground level near the north and south exits of Maihama Station. If these are full, there are also sets of lockers on the next floor down, where the buses depart.

If you’d prefer to leave things closer to the park gate, Disneyland has six sets of lockers outside the park, and you’ll find the same outside DisneySea.

The lockers outside the park cost 800 yen for the largest two sizes, 600 yen for large, 500 yen for medium, and 400 yen for small. You need coins to operate the lockers, so ensure you have lots of 100 yen coins.

The lockers are for one opening only, so you can’t open and close them a few times during the day.

If, for some reason, all the lockers fill up, Disney says they will set up a temporary baggage storage area outside the park. This will cost 1500 yen a bag.

There is a map of the luggage locker locations outside Disneyland here.

If you want to leave your luggage outside DisneySea, you can find a map of the locker locations here.

If you get carried away shopping, the park also has lockers. Again, these are only one use per payment.

Use Luggage Transfer

Good for those traveling from elsewhere in Japan.

This fantastic service is ubiquitous in Japan. It allows you to send your luggage from one hotel (anywhere in Japan) to your hotel in the Disney area, so you don’t have to carry it. This means you can go straight to the park when you arrive.

The bags can take 24-28 hours to go from one hotel to the next, so you must carry a bag with overnight essentials.

Read more about how luggage transfer works here then either ask your previous hotel to organise things for you, or, if you’re staying elsewhere in Tokyo before your trip and heading to Disney, you can book a same-day delivery service here.

On Check Out

The Disney-run hotels will receive luggage but they won’t send it to your next hotel when you check out (unless it’s another Disney hotel). However, there is a Yamato desk where you can do this at the Okura Hotel on the monorail, though – and I would expect the other hotels, like the Hilton and the Sheraton, to offer the service, too.

Tokyo Disney Hotels will send luggage to Haneda Airport, but right now, it will only be sent to Terminal One, and pick-up is only between 4 and 8 p.m.

Most international flights leave from Terminal Three so, if you use this allow plenty of time to pick things up and transfer between the terminals.

To use this service, you must drop off your bags before 10 a.m., and it costs 1500 yen per bag. If you want to use it, ask for more details and confirm all the timings at your Disney hotel.

Most of the partner hotels should offer onward shipping; if not, you could take a short walk to Okura, which can help.

Other Questions

Can I Take My Suitcase Into the Park?

No. Suitcases and wheeled bags aren’t allowed inside.

Can I Take a Small Bag on the Rides?

Yes. Most of the Disney rides have a space under the seat, or in front of your feet where you can store a backpack-sized bag. If you are going on a ride where this isn’t safe there are places to leave your bag in the unloading area for the ride.

You might also be asked to remove headgear like ears, headbands and character hats on many rides.

Can You Transfer Bags Between Disney Hotels?

Yes. You can have your luggage delivered between the Disney-owned hotels, including Celebration Hotel. You will need to drop it off before 11 a.m. Ask your hotel for exact drop-off details.

Can You Send Purchases in the Parks Back to the Hotel?

I used to love using this at the US Parks, and it’s the reason I have far too many giant Eyeores that are sensible for someone of my age. Sadly, they don’t offer the same service at Tokyo Disney.

Can you Send Packages Home?

Not if your home is outside of Japan. If it is, you can use the home delivery service in the parks or hotels.
