Bring on the Bananas—the MINION PARK area of USJ will expand in Summer 2025. Here’s what we know so far.
In a surprise announcement, USJ has revealed that they’re increasing the size of the Minion area of the park by 40 per cent – and it’s opening on July 11th.
There’s a New Ride
Right now, the area is home to the Despicable Me! Minion Mayhem ride and Freeze Ray Sliders, a fun, waltzer-type ride, but when the new area opens, you’ll also find a new attraction called Illuminations Villain-Con Minion Blast.

This is a moving walkway attraction where guests stand on a moving walkway and fire their E-Liminator X-Blaster, attempting to cause maximum destruction—and earn their place among the supervillains. You’ll also get to compete against your friends and family.
The ride will be similar to the ride of the same name in Orlando, but the Japanese team promise exclusive new content and enhanced gameplay features.

The ride will be open to all, but adults must accompany those under 122cm. Strollers and non-electric wheelchairs are allowed on the ride.
Save Money with Klook & Japlanease
If you plan on buying tickets or tours from Klook for when you’re in Japan, you could save up to 10 per cent by using the code JAPLANEASEKLOOK at the checkout. Click here to see what’s on offer.
T&Cs apply. Some items, including Tokyo Disney and USJ tickets, are not available for discounts.
There’s a New Minion Express Pass
A new Express Pass will launch, ready for the area’s opening, and will go on sale at noon on June 23rd.
It’s called Minion & Adventure and it includes skip-the-line access for Illuminations, Villain-Con Minion Blast, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, Yoshi’s Adventure (which will also get you into Super Nintendo World) and Detective Conan: 4D Live Show. It will be available via the official website. There is no word yet on whether Klook will have it, but it’s worth checking.
There Will Be New Snacks
The themed food in the Minion area is my favourite in the park—the Banana Ice Cream Sandwich is a must-eat – and so the news that USJ will be adding new snack stands with unique food as part of the expansion makes me very happy.

As much as I pled for an ‘It’s so Fluffy I’m Gonna Die’ candy floss or giant cream-topped drink, the new food stand is called Evil Eats and it has some very cute donuts – and, a dish that truly does live up to the word evil. It’s called the Donut Burger for Villans: BBQ Pork and Bacon.
This is quite the thing… it’s a burger topped with pork, bacon and cheese, sandwiched between two chocolate topped donuts. Look at it…

They’ll also be adding new shops and more Minion-merch for those needing more Bob, Kevin, or Fluffy-related goodies in their lives.

Don’t Forget to Buy Your Studio Pass
Everyone who visits USJ needs to buy a Studio Pass. You can buy a simple one that lets you into the park, or, if you buy them early, you might find the Klook special that also includes Super Nintendo World. Tickets are now released two months before the date you want to enter the park, so, check if they’re available now for your dates.
