Narita Airport is actually nearer to Tokyo Disney Resort than it is to Tokyo itself – but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s easy to decide how to get from the airport to TDR, especially if you’re traveling with small kids, on a budget, or arriving on a night flight. So, we’re going to explain how to get from Narita to Tokyo Disneyland (and DisneySea and the hotels of Tokyo Disney Resort) quickly, easily, and with as little hassle as possible.

The Best Options from Narita to Tokyo Disney…
Are You Arriving Between 6.30 am-4.30 pm?
Then the best option for pretty much everyone is the Airport Bus to Tokyo Disney Resort
Are You Arriving Early or After 4.30 pm?
If so, and you pack light then consider the train or a private car
If so and you have luggage or small children, consider a private car
Are There More Than 5 People in Your Group?
Then you might want to choose a private car, or the Airport Bus
Are You Traveling Solo or as a Couple?
Consider the bus, train, or a shared transfer
Are You Using the JR Pass?
Then the cheapest option would be the train.

Get Orientated
The Tokyo Disney Resort is located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, which is east of Tokyo itself and 40 miles away from Narita Airport.
Transport options to get you from the airport to the Disney parks and hotel include door-to-door buses, trains via Tokyo, private cars, and taxis. Which of these you should choose depends on things like how much luggage you have, what time you’re arriving, and how big your family is – so, here’s our at-a-glance guide to what’s best in certain situations.

Airport Limousine Bus: Cheap and Easy
Great For: Pretty much everyone arriving between 6.30am – 6 pm, particularly families and those with luggage
We’ll kick things off by looking at the cheapest and easiest way to get from Narita to Tokyo Disney Resort and that’s by bus.
This is the most convenient and comfortable mode of transport for families with children and those carrying lots of luggage but it’s also perfect if you’re travelling on a budget or solo travelling.
The bus picks up at all three terminals and costs just ¥2300 for adults and ¥1150 for children. For this price, you can take one bus from the airport to the Disney Parks, or the door of your Disney Resort hotel.
The bus takes approximately 66 minutes to reach the Disney Resort area (and it then takes 26 minutes to travel to all the hotels and parks) and buses leave the airport once or twice an hour – find the exact timetable here.
The downside is the operating hours – the first bus now leaves the airport at 7.50 am, and the last one departs at 6.00 pm – meaning this is not an option for those arriving on a very early or a very late flight.

Private Car: Very Convenient
Good For: Families, those with luggage, and those arriving after 8.30 pm
Whereas we don’t suggest getting a car to central Tokyo from Narita (as the trains are a much better, far cheaper option) because Tokyo Disneyland is closer to Narita than Tokyo itself, using a private car transfer becomes a more viable option if you’re traveling to Tokyo Disney Resort – especially if there are four or more in your family.
A private car will meet you at the airport (sadly not with Baymax driving it) and take you to any of Tokyo’s 23 wards and beyond. This includes Chiba.
Depending on traffic, it will take about 50 to 60 minutes to reach Disney by private car, and you’ll be dropped off exactly where you need to be.
How to Book a Private Car to Disney
A private car for five passengers and four pieces of luggage on Klook costs from AU$166.75 (US$112.50 or £87). That works out at AU$33.34 (or US$22.50 or £17.40) per person for a family of five, that’s about the same as using the simplest train route, but about twice the price of the bus.

Train: Quick and Cheap
Good For: Light packers, couples or small families, those arriving before 8.30 pm, those using the JR Pass
You can also reach Tokyo Disney Resort by train. There are a couple of routes, but the best option for jetlagged folks with luggage is to take the Narita Express, which runs from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station, and then change to the Keiyo Metro line to Disney.
The Narita Express journey takes approximately 60 minutes and while it’s more expensive than the local train, there is space for luggage and it’s easy to navigate when you’re first off the plane.
The first Narita Express train leaves Narita at 7.37 am but the last departure is at 21.44 pm – so, allowing for immigration and customs we wouldn’t suggest relying on this option if you’re arriving in Tokyo after about 8.30 pm.
At Tokyo Station, you’ll need to take the JR Keiyo Line that goes directly to Maihama Station which is the jumping-off point to Tokyo Disney.
Maihama Station is only a five-minute walk from Tokyo Disneyland or the monorail that takes you to the resorts.
This option costs roughly ¥3,070 for the Narita Express per person – then the metro fare of 230 yen, and the train usually runs every 30 minutes. It must be noted that this isn’t the best of journeys to make if you have lots of luggage – but if you’ve packed light, it’s a good choice.
If You Are on a Late Flight
One of the main things to consider when deciding which Tokyo airport to fly into is what time your flight arrives as, transport from Narita in the late evening isn’t that great, especially if you’re traveling with small kids or lots of luggage.
That’s why in our article comparing Narita and Haneda we suggest those arriving at Narita late in the evening consider staying at an airport hotel that night and making your way to Tokyo early the next morning – admittedly, this might not be the best choice for Disney travelers as most people want to wake up and go straight to the park, but, if you have a bit more time to play with, it’s worth considering. I have stayed at the Hotel Nikko Narita and would recommend it.
Can You Use Your JR Pass to Get to Tokyo Disney
Yes – the Narita Express is included on the JR pass, and you swap to a JR line, so if you’re using your JR Pass from the start of your trip, then this journey will be included and, therefore, free until you get to Maihama.
Note – this doesn’t mean that you have to have a JR Pass to take the journey if you’re just staying in Tokyo, you don’t need a JR Pass at all (see more about using a JR Pass in Tokyo here) but if you have some spare days on a pass, then, it could be a way to use those.
There are some cheaper train options than this that also run a little later in the evening. If you’re a confident traveler with little luggage or coming in late and night and really don’t have the budget for a car, they might help you—Google Maps or the Navitime app are your friends to help you find these.
Taxi: Expensive, But Quick
Good For: Smaller families, those with luggage, and those arriving after 8.30 pm
If you want to get from Narita Airport to your Disney Resort hotel as quickly as possible, we recommend getting a taxi. Taxis are available at every terminal, day and night, offering a quick solution.
A taxi can get to Tokyo Disney Resort in less than 50 minutes on a good day. This option is ideal for smaller families (most taxis will seat 3-4 with 2 pieces of luggage) and couples that have suitcases.
However, the most convenient isn’t always the cheapest. A private taxi from Narita Airport to Tokyo Disney Resort can cost between ¥26,000 (£143) and ¥31,000 (£172), making it the most expensive mode of transport in this guide.
The upside though, a taxi will take you right to the door.
Japanese taxi drivers will always use the meter so don’t worry about that – and most cabs take credit cards. However, do make sure you have some cash on you just in case, your credit card doesn’t work for some reason. Also, it’s a good idea to have your hotel address written in Japanese to ensure there’s no confusion. You don’t need to tip taxi drivers in Japan.
Money-Saving Option
Alternatively, you could get on the N’Ex and then jump in a taxi from Tokyo Station. The trip to the Tokyo Disney from Tokyo Station takes about 20-25 minutes in a taxi and costs about 7800 yen – depending on where in the resort you’re getting out. If there are just two of you, that’s cheaper than getting a cab direct (but see the option below).
Don’t Forget to Buy Your Disney Tickets
If you’re within two months of your trip, why not order them now so it’s done? Unlike the Disney site, Klook takes all foreign credit cards. Plus, if you’re buying other tours or tickets, add the code JAPLANEASEKLOOK at checkout and you could save up to 10 per cent.

Shared Cars: Easy and Budget-Friendly
If you’re looking for an alternative option that offers comfort and speed, but you don’t want to spend too much, you could jump in a shared taxi/minibus at the airport. Companies like Green Tomato offer shared travel services and can take you straight to Maihama.
This option is better suited to couples and solo travelers because it reduces the cost of traveling in a taxi alone. It isn’t the most cost-effective mode of transport for families though because the companies charge by person, rather than by vehicle, so you could end up paying more than it costs to hire a private car.
A shared taxi will meet you at the arrival lounge and take you to where you need to be. The only downside to this option is that you might have to wait at the airport for other travelers, and it can take longer to get to Disney.
The price makes it worthwhile though. Shared services usually only cost ¥6,600 (£36) per person. Depending on traffic, it could take one to two hours to reach the park also allowing for drop-offs.
